Nob Hill is San Francisco's most storied hilltop — home to the city's first generation of railroad and silver barons, whose mansions gave the neighborhood its name. Today, it's defined by grand historic hotels (the Fairmont, Huntington, and Mark Hopkins), Grace Cathedral, and Huntington Park, all clustered around California and Mason streets at the city's highest residential point. The housing stock is primarily condos and apartments in stately buildings, which attracts a mix of long-term residents and executives who value proximity to downtown with an elevated remove from the energy of the streets below. The views — east to the Bay Bridge and Oakland, west to the Richmond — are exceptional.
